John and Janet were appointed by CBInternational in 1987 and began ministering in Pakistan . John says, “The church in Pakistan is in great need of Godly leaders to shepherd the believers and reach out to the Muslims”. The Cornishes ministered in the city of Larkana where the church was made up of former Hindus until 1999 when they moved to the city of Karachi . The primary goal in Karachi was to help believers from a Muslim background realize their need to establish a spiritual fellowship among themselves and cooperate with other pastors and churches when possible.
After the events of September 11, 2001 civil unrest increased and the area became extremely dangerous to open Christians in a country having a sharia law – a mandatory death sentence for showing “disrespect to the Prophet”. CBInternational moved John and Janet back to the USA due to the impending war. John and Janet now work in New York with the Muslim community, as well as in overseas restricted access areas on a short-term basis, where it is dangerous to witness for Christ. They have two children Jeremiah and Jessica.
