Bill and Mary Scarpitta were appointed by CBInternational for career service in 2001 and are currently in Moscow , Russia . They have two sons, Nicholas and Michael. After studying the Russian language for 18 months they have a good grasp of it, and can participate in some ministry. Language study is known as “phase 1” of their training. As for now, Bill and Mary cannot participate in leadership as they must learn much more about the nuances of ministering to the Russian people. For instance, “Question and Answer” type Bible studies are very uncomfortable for Russians, but are popular in USA and Mongolia . The Scarpittas have a home group connected with a church plant they attend but for now a Russian from the church is leading it. They are currently planning their first outreach – “movie and discussion time”. This will be an evening where friends of the group will come over to watch a movie that allows discussion of morals and choices.

While some background ministry has already begun the real thrust of “phase 2” of their training will not begin until this summer. At that time Bill and Mary will be primarily involved in discipling future pastors.
