What do you do in your services?
Our "Order of Worship" changes from time to time, but typically:
We begin with a few words of welcome and encouragement followed by a few songs to the Lord. After the time of singing, we worship by presenting our offerings to the Lord. Visitors are not expected to give, in fact, it is always pointed out before the offering that it is only for members and those who regularly attend. During the offering, we will have special music by one of many talented members. Our choir will usually sing once a month during the early service (9:15 am) and twice a month during the late service (11:00 am). This is followed by a time of prayer which is followed by a message based on the Bible.
Will I be singled out in any way as a new person or visitor?
Never! When you are recognized as new or a visitor, our members and regular attenders will most likely welcome you and tell you how glad they are that you're visiting and ask if they can provide you with one of our "welcome bags." They may even introduce you to a few folks close by, but never put you on the spot or make you feel uncomfortable. During the worship service, visitors are never asked to raise their hand, stand, or anything else. We do let you know during the service that we're glad you are here, that we have a "welcome bag" for you, and in the back of seat in front of you will be a "connection card" where you can let us know who you are and that you visited. There are options for you on the "connection card" to request prayer for any reason, put down a comment or question, and request a call or a visit from one of the pastors or a church member. Bottom line is we will not contact you unless you ask us to!
Do you take up a collection during your service?
We call it an offering, however visitors are not expected to give. In fact, it is always pointed out before the offering that it is for members and those who regularly attend. Also, on the first Sunday of every month we have a second offering. This offering we call our "Fellowship Offering," it is specifically collected to help out any regular attenders of the church who request funds because of a financial hardship or emergency. As with our weekly offering we never expect visitors to give. The "Fellowship Offering" goes into a special fund called the "Fellowship Fund" and is distributed at the discretion of and by the elders of the church.
Do you celebrate the Lord's Supper or Communion?
Yes! On every first Sunday of the month. Each time of celebration and remembrance of our Lord's broken body and shed blood for our sake is shared after a time of reflection and examination through a silent prayer before the Lord. It is always pointed out to everyone present that you do not need to be a member of Jackson Baptist Church to participate, but it is important that you are a member of the body of Christ: one who has trusted and accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
Do you have a weekly prayer service?
Not at this time, but we hope to in the near future. Right now we have a prayer service on the first Sunday of every month and we call it, "Wordship and Prays"! It is an hour of prayer to the Lord - by praying His Word and singing a hymn or song. We usually break the hour up into times of Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication or ACTS.
As a new person or visitor how can I get to know people?
One way to get to know people is to come to one of our "Let's Connect Luncheons." On the first Sunday of every month, we have a special luncheon for any of the new folks coming out to the church. This is just a time of having a simple meal and getting to meet the pastors, leadership, and various members of the church. You are never pressured in any way! It is strictly a time of getting to know one another and connecting. Of course if you have any questions about the church or require information, we will be glad to provide it to you.
