Pray the Whole Day
"Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
The Elders of Jackson Baptist Church are calling upon everyone to participate in a 24 hour time of prayer. On Sunday August 7th starting at 8:00 a.m. through Monday August 8th ending at 8:00 a.m. we are asking you to sign up to participate in at least one hour of prayer as we seek the Lord's wisdom, power, guidance, grace, and mercy in the areas of the vision and direction of the church as we continue to transition into a larger congregation. We continue to struggle through growth pains such as staffing various ministries, greater involvement in Growth Groups and Bible Studies, ministering to our children and college and career groups, and effectively assimilating newcomers to our family of believers. We also want to continue to seek the Lord's face regarding Phase 2 of our Building for Eternity plan as well as the expansion of our parking lot. Bottom line: it has taken longer than expected to transition into a larger church that functions on all cylinders as we “enable people at home and abroad to become mature disciples of Jesus Christ".
We will be providing you all with three ways to participate. The first 12 hours we will concentrate on corporate prayer as we come together here at the church to pray. You can come for one hour or stay for all 12 hours if you like. We will cover the first hour (8:00 to 9:00 a.m.) and fourth hour (11:00 a.m. to 12 noon) by praying in a segment of our worship services. (No one should sign-up for these times as we will be together in the worship service). For those who sign up for the two hours in between our worship services we will designate a place for you to pray (like pastor Don's office, or even outdoors if the weather is nice). Then from 1:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. we will pray in Friendship Hall (with our regular Wordship & Prays service from 5:00 through 6:00 p.m.).
During the 13th hour from 8:00pm through 9:00pm, we will pray in designated homes. Pastor Don's will be one of the homes to host the one hour prayer time. We would like to invite other people to offer their homes for this hour of prayer as well. This is not a time of coffee, snacks, and cakes but a solid hour of prayer. Obviously anything you do after the scheduled hour is up to the individual host.
During the last 11 hours and ending at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, we are asking people to sign-up to dedicate an hour of prayer in their home (or wherever) to pray on their own. We will have a sign-up sheet in the hall and at the information desk this Sunday for you to sign-up, or you can call the church from now until August 7th to sign-up, we will give you an opportunity to sign-up through email and also online on the JBC website.
